Uptown Neighborhood Guide
Uptown is a hip, urban neighborhood just north of downtown Dallas. It’s bordered by the Central Expressway on the east and the Katy Trail on to the northwest, and within Uptown are scores of excellent restaurants, high-end retail shops and some hopping nightlife that makes this neighborhood popular with Dallas’ up-and-coming young professionals.
Living in Uptown
Uptown has a variety of housing options including several mid-rise and high-rise apartment buildings. Many Uptown Dallas apartments are brand new, and choices include traditional one- and two-bedroom apartments, luxury penthouses with panoramic views of downtown, and town homes.
Uptown living means having easy access to the trolley and highway systems, but it’s also one of the most carefully planned urban districts in the country. It’s extremely walkable, with banks, shops and grocery stores all located near housing and office space.
Shopping, Dining & Nightlife
There’s a lot to do in Uptown, and one favorite pastime is shopping. The West Village is an upscale urban retail center with hip boutiques, familiar retailers like Brooks Brothers, and the Magnolia Theater all within a few blocks. It borders McKinney Avenue and its trolley line, where there are several great bars and restaurants.
Nearby restaurants include The Rustic, which serves homestyle Southern dishes and features a unique outdoor area known as the Backyard, where people can mix and mingle. Uptown also has excellent wine bars: the Cork Wine Bar and Two Corks and a Bottle are great choices. For dog-friendly dining, Mutts Cantina features a beer garden and pub grub, along with a dog park where you can let your best friend run free with other neighborhood dogs while you kick back with humans for some drinks and conversation.
The Katy Trail is the shining jewel of Uptown. This former railway line has been paved and landscaped to provide a wonderful green space for walking, cycling, running and a host of sponsored outdoor activities. Right on the Katy Trail is the Katy Trail Ice House, a beer garden with delicious barbecue, a bright, open patio and a 50-foot long bar with room for everyone. It’s the perfect place to gather after a jog down the trail in the sun.
Living in one of the many great Uptown Dallas apartments can get you right in the center of all the action of this great neighborhood. With so many options, there’s sure to be one that’s right for you.
